Hawks

This afternoon we had a very strange experience. Shauna and I were doing the dishes when we looked out the window at about the same time and saw a whole group of hawks circling our backyard! Raylene was sitting at the computer so we called her over to see then headed outside to get some pictures. For some reason unknown to us a total of 18 hawks circled and finally landed on a trees across the street from us. They stayed there about half an hour and then just flew away. Here are some of them circling our chicken coop. By the time they left all the chickens were under the house trying to hide, but nothing came of it.
This tree seemed to be the favorite, for most of them at one time or other landed on it.
Before we brought out the other camera to zoom in closer Jordan said he would like to get a look at them through a rifle scope. Kendra innocently asked why, and then was horrified when he replied "to shoot them!"
It was interesting seeing these wild creatures in the middle of the city.

No Lid!

Audra was able to have a cup without a lid away from the table for the first time today. She drank about four cups of water because she was so excited to have a real cup! Now every time she sees someone in the kitchen she says "Waller, waller?" Her tongue gets in the way of her 't's, but she gets the point across.

THE LONG DISTANCE CHAMP

This is our eternal jar of vaseline. It has been around since we lived in Colorado, and for as long as I can remember. It has been with us longer than many things, such as . . . .
2 freezers
2 station wagons
3 refrigerators
3 dryers
3 vans
4 houses
5 cars
6 children
6 churches
7 chickens
9 dogs
16 cats
It has even outlived endless colds, nosebleeds, chapped lips, and sore baby bottoms.
Believe it or not it still works, and looks to be around for the next generation.

Interesting Statistics

Since Kayla has turned thirteen, it reminded us of some interesting statistics about our family that we figured out a little while ago. It's amazing how much work and time goes into a family.
Years with children: Mommy and Daddy will have a child somewhere from birth to eighteen for 36 years. During that time they will have raised 180 years of childhood all together, had four teenagers for two years and six months, and five teenagers for one year and four months.
(Some of) Daddy's work: While raising children, to support the family, Daddy will have worked 74,880 hours, not including all the overtime.
(Some of) Mommy's work: Mommy will have cooked (or overseen) about 39,420 meals. I would subtract meals that we children cook, except she prepares us lots of extra 'mini-meals' when we are growing or working harder than normal.
Homeschooling: For 31 years, this Werzinski family home-school will be in operation. As of right now, there are four teachers (Daddy, Mommy, Nicole, and myself), with more in training. Algebra 1 will have been gone through at least twelve times, at least two foreign languages (French and Spanish) will have been learned, and Mommy and Daddy will have sat through countless tearful sessions of correcting difficult math and English lessons.
Of course, this only scratches the surface of what my parents do, but these numbers are the most impressive:) All of us children also appreciate the real life lessons that they have taught us, and the innumerable late night talks to sort things out. So, thank you, Daddy and Mommy, and may we children help you remember Galatians 6:9, and not make you tired!

Happy Birthday Kayla!

My second 'little' sister is now thirteen. Kayla has been such a blessing to our family in so many ways. Her openness, femininity, and desire for the Lord is an encouragement and an example to both her older and younger siblings. May the Lord continue to bless her with a heart for Him in all her coming years.

Practice Makes Perfect!

We went to a wedding on Friday, and the next day the little girls were practicing holding the trains of each other's wedding dresses. It was perfect, since they all got to be brides and bridesmaids at the same time! Being flower girls would satisfy them right now, though. They are strongly encouraging their older sisters and girl friends to get married before they get too old to walk down the aisle with the flower baskets. Any position that comes with a pretty dress and the excitement of a wedding is a little girl's dream come true.
